I added a zfs pool today using 4 disk in a raidz1 but when i rebooted my server is now stuck at boot with an blinking prompt. It does not even make it to grub. I may have updated the server, but I thought they were just some minor upgrades. I have upgraded in the past and never had any issues. I think the issue has to do with creating a zfs pool and a dataset. but I did not do anything to the disk the os is installed on. I am confused with why it is doing this.

Hi,

when you made the upgrade do you use apt-get dist-upgrade or just apt-get upgrade?

Actually come to think about it, i just did a apt-get upgrade i am pretty sure. I did it through the web gui. Usually major upgrades only happen when i do a dist-upgrade right?

I wonder if something happened to the way it boots? because it doesnt even make it to grub, which means the drive must not look bootable. Would it be a good option to remove all disks except the main disk and see if it boots then?

Maybe silly suggestion, but did you check your boot order?
it is not a silly question. Actually i think my boot order got messed up. I removed the HDD's that zfs was set up on and it booted no problem. And noticed it was showing the main hard drive as something other than what it was suppose to be. which was odd. I did not make any changes to that. I will see if i can find out what hard drive needs to boot and see if i can get them all to install like they are suppose too.
