CPU allocation

Hello

Im trying to understand CPU allocation in PVE 1.5 with a 2.6.24 kernel.

If I have an i7 CPU with 16 available cores and I have 3 VM's

VM1 - 4 cores
VM2 - 4 cores
VM3 - 2 cores

Does this mean that CM1 will be allocates the first 4 cores, VM2 the next 4 cores and VM3 the next 2 cores, meaning there are 4 cores spare and not used?

Or does it work differently?

AFAIK, KVM just starts the number of threads you specified, everything else is up to the kernel scheduler.
