Hi, I have same problem he describes viewtopic.php?p=808075#p808075, but disabling "PCIe ASPM Support" in the BIOS didn't help. I also tried different settings in /etc/default/grub but also no success. I noticed though that until I connect the NVMe drive, the I226-V works. If I plug it in, it works according to the LEDs on the connector a few seconds after boot, then the port is completely dead.
I have a NUC14RVHU5, but that shouldn't make a difference.
It's running Proxmox, Linux kernel iris 6.8.12-3-pve #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC PMX 6.8.12-3 (2024-10-23T11:41Z) x86_64 GNU/Linux
BIOS latest version 44.
I spent the whole weekend on this, but couldn't figure out how to get the I226-V up and running. Do you have any ideas?
I tried installing Windows 10 and the I226-V didn't work until I manually reinstalled the latest drivers.
Thanks a lot for your help.

Get it first working in bare-metal Debian & then either install Proxmox on-top, or use the drivers/settings incorporated in the Debian install for a fresh Proxmox one.

It kinda sounds like a motherboard IRQ conflict or something. Can you use slower SSD instead of nvme?

You might want to see if you have the latest BIOS version, and maybe file a ticket with ASUS support

Thank you for your reply. I don't want to use a slower SSD. I have the latest BIOS. On the exact same configuration, Windows 10 booted, but not with the default drivers, but with the drivers downloaded from the manufacturer. I have contacted ASUS, but this seems beyond their support capabilities.

How do I use Debian drivers?
I can't directly help you with that - but the post you linked to would seem the exact same problem. So install Debian in the same way as that poster and see if you can get it working in Debian. Then proceed from there.

Unfortunately, unless you want to go down a rabbit hole with this... I looked up that NUC model on Amazon and asked Rufus about Proxmox, and it's not explicitly supported. If you want everything working out of the box, you might want to return this one and go with a different mini-pc. Beelink might be something to look at but you might want to ask some questions about which mini-pc models are known working-good with PVE

I really didn't expect such a problem, I've been using the NUC for over 10 years and I didn't expect the slump to be so fast after it was sold under the ASUS wing.

Unfortunately the easiest way to return it, I solved the problem with LAN via USB :-(
