Completely locked up - can't do anything?

So, no matter what I try I cannot do anything. The GUI has completely locked up and just says loading.

root@vm:~# cat /var/log/syslog
-bash: /usr/bin/cat: Input/output error

root@vm:~# reboot
Failed to open initctl fifo: No such device or address
Failed to talk to init daemon

Is there any way to reboot this host?

Seems like a disk failure. IPMI if you have it or physical power button.
