Ceph with PERC H965i or HBA465i

we are currently planning to expand our infrastructure with ceph storage.

however, our procurement process is stuck on the controller for Dell R760xs, right now, we received a quote with the PERC H965i controller for our SAS/SATA backplane. but i read that using RAID controllers is not recommended. however, seems that the availability of the HBA465i is somewhat not provided by our supplier. would using the PERC H965i with our SATA disks put on Non-RAID mode be sufficient? or should i really find the HBA card somewhere else?

It is stated, that using a RAID controller - even in IT mode - is not recommended. The controller still abstracts things, so therefore nobody will guarantee that it works as it should and that is most probably the only right answer there is. Nevertheless, it will work, yet unbeknownst to what extent.
