Hello Everyone,
I'm planning to deploy Pve5 / Ceph on a couple of Dell c6220's ( 4 node dense chassis ).
The point is, that i have some concerns about running Ceph on this LSI 9265 powered by sas2208 chipset that these servers come with. I've only tried until now hp SmartArray p410 with bad results for osd nodes and LSI2008 which works really great.
The point being is that it seems that i just can't order these servers with lsi2008, which i've already tested.

Is there someone that had some experience with this lsi9265/sas2208 controller for ceph osd nodes ?

Thank you very much,

Leo

Hi,

for ceph osd never use a HW raid card this will normally make problems.
Use HBA controller instead and you will have no problems.
Also Raid in JOD mode can make Problems.
The main reason for this problems are the cache.

Thank you very much !
For sure it makes all sense that the cache has bad impact on osd writes.
So... either i'll try to get an HBA for those c6220's nodes, either IT mode is supported to flash that LSI9265 ( which i don't think it's possible )

If it is a original LSI brand and no DEll,HP,IBM... you should be able to flash it in IT mode.

Thank you,
I think its Dell branded ( being the fact that c6220 is default shipped with this card ).
So i guess if the seller can provide me these servers with already IT mode flashed cards, then i'm good to go with ceph osds ?
Just asking for an oppinion on this...
