Ceph Migration from Nautilus to Reef: Incompatibility Issues
When migrating a cluster from Nautilus (v14) to Reef (v18), the cluster fails to mount the CephF and ceph file systems.
The main symptoms are:
CephX authentication failures between nodes (monitors, OSDs, MDS), generating permission denied and handle_auth_bad_method errors.
Incompatibilities in the monmap and keyring files, including a misconfigured min_mon_release, preventing proper communication between monitors and clients.
Absence of functional monitors, resulting in the inability to retrieve the cluster configuration and establish a valid authentication session.
OSDs and MDSs fail to retrieve the monitor configuration, causing service startup failures.
As a result, CephFS mount fails with errors such as "no mds server is up" and "mauth authentication failed: -13".
