Today we are really excited to celebrate 20 years of Proxmox Server Solutions. When Dietmar and I founded Proxmox 20 years ago, our vision was clear: to create efficient and easy-to-manage Linux software solutions for everyone. Looking back, it's incredible to see how far we’ve come—from a small startup to a trusted provider for enterprises around the globe.
On April 29, 2005 we released the first stable version of Proxmox Mail Gateway. We had started development the year before and when we saw it becoming stable, we decided to register our company called Proxmox.
In April 2008 we released the first version of our virtualization management solution Proxmox Virtual Environment. We are proud to provide what is now one of the best open-source virtualization solutions for creating and managing VMs, containers, software-defined storage and networking, high-availability clustering and more using a single solution.
With the Proxmox Backup Server launch in 2020, we are proud to have an enterprise backup solution that helps businesses minimize downtime and keeping their data safe. Built on the Rust programming language, this has allowed us to steadily adapt our codebase, migrating parts from Perl to Rust. 2022 was the year we released the Proxmox Offline Mirror, a tool to update air-gapped environments. We are developing a new, Yew-based GUI framework; a preview can be seen on the first Alpha version of Proxmox Datacenter Manager released in December 2024. And there is a lot to come!
Can you believe it? 20 years have flown by! Looking back, it went like a breeze. Over the last 2 decades, we have learned so much from our amazing friends and constant supporters. Your encouragement and support have been instrumental in helping us achieve our goals and pursue our mission. We are so grateful for all your help in making our products and services better every day. You contributed code, tracked bugs, shared testing results, sent us translations, motivated us, requested new features (almost daily!), and supported us by subscribing to our services.
