Can't use keyboard during install Dell Poweredge R730

I'm trying to install Proxmox onto an R730 and the keyboard just doesn't do anything. It works in the bios so I know the keyboard is good, but I'm so lost as to why it's not working. I do not have an enterprise license for the iDRAC, the keyboard I've tried in front and back USB ports.

Any help is appreciated.

Welcome, @Zexan
Hard to guess, because you haven't given the details, e.g. what exactly happens in which stage of installation.

Anyway, you check whether the same problem exists with installers of other systems, like Debian, Ubuntu or when booting from a rescue image, e.g. SystemrescueCD.

On the Dell PowerEdge R730 this is usually a USB mode issue, not Proxmox.

In BIOS, set USB to Enabled and disable USB 3.0 or set it to Auto. Also try turning off Legacy USB emulation, then test again.

If it still freezes at the installer screen, recreate the USB stick with Rufus in DD mode. A bad write can cause input to stop once the kernel loads.

If possible, test with a Debian installer to confirm it is not firmware related.

I’ll try this tonight, thank you!

Trying all the usb stuff didn’t help, I couldn’t find the legacy usb emulation option tho
