I've pretty successfully setup Proxmox on multiple machines so I've troubleshooted Proxmox before, but I've never had this much trouble with just booting the ISO. This is a Debian specific kernel level issue, I know, because Ubuntu 24.04 Server live disk gets through, but Debian 12 and Proxmox 8.4 give up on video out. (I've tried Debian 13 and Proxmox 9.1, but I end up with the same issues as reported by proxy and was not able to solve it with the suggestions.) I've attempted with the BMC VGA, NVS 310, 980Ti, and an ancient ATI card. After grub, regardless of GUI or Terminal, debug or not, my display goes black. These are the grub options I've tried in various combination:
I have enabled IOMMU, SR-IOV, and Above 4G Decoding per my usual setup and disabled them in varying combination just in case. I can't even get the serial console out to print, but that might be more related to my motherboard's Serial-Over-Lan which is flaky.
I really need some help, lads.
Code:
nomodeset video=vesafb:off, efifb:off modprobe.blacklist=ast (to ignore the BMC VGA) acpi=off OR pci=nomsi
