I am attempting to install ProxMox VE on a Dell R740 server with Perc 740 RAID controller.
The server has two 4tb drives.
I have tried to installed with RAID1 configured - fails.
I have tried with nothing configured - fails.
I have downloaded the ISO twice and compared checksum - it was correct.

Every time it fails with SQUASHFS error: Failed to read block xxxxxxxxx

Its not always the same values but always a failure.

The ISO is on a network drive with no security requirements.
I'm doing all my work through IDRAC as the server room is flipping cold.

Since you checked the download is not corrupt, then the USB flash memory is corrupt or did not get written correctly or there is a hardware issues on the target machine like corrupt memory or USB controller issues (or something else). I'm assuming you created a USB flash drive or did you burn the ISO to an optical disc?

Idrac allows me to mount the ISO via network share.
Its the same method I've used for multiple vmware installs in the past - never had an issue like this.

I fear I'll need to hunt down a drive and burn physical media. The server itself does not an optical drive.

It's got to be some kind of corruption somewhere between the confirmed correct image and the target machine reading it. Lots of people have used the PVE installation ISO without such problems. I cannot tell which link in the chain might be the problem, sorry. Can you boot the Ubuntu 24.04 LTS Live installer on that machine with no issues?

Never tried.
Likely give that a whirl tomorrow when I am back in the office.

It would appear classic A+ troubleshooting steps still apply.
After repeatedly having issues with install of Proxmox and/or Ubuntu I reseated all the memory and tried again - installed Proxmox without issues.

So I'll post this hear hoping somebody can point me to a really good guide - which I will look for myself, too.
I have a three host VMWare stack I need to replace.

In this case I will have three Proxmox hosts attached to an iSCSI array.
Currently I am just trying to cut my teeth and learn a bit about Proxmox before rubber hits the road.
