Cannot change x86-64-v2-AES to kvm64

Hi there
I have a recently built Rocky Linux vm that had a cpu set to x86-64-v2-AES
But because of the performance issues on this configuration I'm trying to change it to KVM64

If i change it is get a

end Kernal panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exitcode-0x00007f00

Any idea how to fix this so i can change it?
Preference is not to use host cpu.

The root cause of this issue is the compilation of RHEL 9 and it's derivatives to use the x86-64-v2 instruction set https://developers.redhat.com/blog/...ground_of_the_x86_64_microarchitecture_levels

In summary, it is NOT a Proxmox/QEMU issue. It's a CPU issue.

If you are concerned about performance, try using host. kvm64 is not recommended and unlikely to give better performance.
