Can this be done?

I'd like to have a proxmox server with a physical wifi and ethernet connection. I want to have it connect to the internet through the wifi and be able to use a VM as a router and route stuff from the wifi (internet) to the ethernet (lan) inside a vm. Then I'd like all over VM's to work off of the ethernet connection. I'd also like to limit login to proxmox to only ethernet.

Can this be done?


I am sort of also wondering if maybe to simplify that I can just have a normal ethernet for private which would be used for VM's and logging into proxomx, then just using a PCIE passthrough to use the wifi card inside the router VM.

Can someone explain how to do this?

Can be done by not assigning an IP to the WiFi nic but to the bridged Virtual nic in a KVM for say a PFsense firewall box. just having the lan vmbr with an IP so you can manage it. but I'm sure that you'll get plenty of people saying it's not a good idea to expose the host NIC (blank IP or not) to the internet. I figure the MAC address is still swinging out there in the wind.. etc...

Well, I'm not sure but it could be help you, can we have Apache listen on one interface as only eth0 or wlan0 ?

If apache doesn't listen on your internet interface so, never can connect with Proxmox GUI.

It's the same think for SSH I think...

Are you wanting to manage your proxmox host over the internet too?

I cnat see any reason why it wouldnt work, just trying to figure out why you would want it to run from wifi instead of ethernet...
