Hi everybody,

In some situations, for test proposites, I need create some VM / CT that require to install a software more resources that the physical PROXMOX Server has.

Only for test proposites not for production...

Can I do this?

Need I increase the swap or anything in the PROXMOX Server?

Best regards,

Ramses

Obviously not possible.

If you have 16 cores/16GB memory in the node, you can create 10 KVM/VT each with 16 cores/16GB memory.

But for a single KVM/CT you can not have more than 16 cores/16GB memory.

despite what Vasu said, you can tell it whatever you want. It bitches about it, but the VM will think it has more hardware than it does.

It will likely not work well once you reach that limit, though.

Sorry by my late response.

Very thanks by the anwers.

For example:

For test purposes, I have needed to install a software that check if the machine have 10Gb of memory. Later the software works well (for test purposes) with less memory, not use all memory, but to install it checks the memory.

Really, I needed to try a VMWare Cluster installation with vCenter and all...

The vCenter needs 10Gb of memory to install and each host ESXi of the cluster needs 4 Gb of memory plus the memory that needs a VM to install FreeNAS that would be the shared storage of cluster.

My PROXMOX have 16Gb of memory and has some CT/MV working. If I sum all the memory that I needed to test the cluster and the memory that the CT/MV that are working have assigned, I needed more than the 16Gb that my PROXMOX had.

But how PROXMOX permit me assign more resources that it has, adding up the totallity of resources of the CT/MV, I have been able to try the install of the VMWare Cluster with only a physical machine, my PROXMOX.

Best regards,

Ramses
