Hello wonderful Proxmox Community,
This question probably had been asked thousand times already, still i am hoping somebody can help me out with the backup speed issue i am having.
Primarily I have been using FreeNAS as shared storage. My backup speed always stayed at 55-60Mib/s. Following are the FreeNAS and Proxmox machine specs i am working with:
Proxmox Host
-------------
CPU: Intel i7-3770
RAM: 32GB
HDD: 60GB SSD
NIC: Intel Pro Gigabit

FreeNAS Node
--------------
CPU: Intel i5-3550
RAM: 28GB
HDD: 2x 2TB Segate HDD , Mirrored ZFS
NIC: Intel Pro Gigabit

In order to make sure FreeNAS was not causing the backup slow down, i setup a OmniOS+Napp-IT box with identical FreeNAS specs. I even backedup directly on to Proxmox host. But the speed was same around 60 MiB/s. The speed did jump to 110+MiB/s first time i setup OmniOS shared storage. But the speed dropped to 60MiB/s again after 3 backups. But here is the interesting part. On the proxmox host, if i turn on Write back=unsafe cache, speed jumps to 115 MIb/s does not matter which shared storage i am backing up to. I understand this is unsafe, but is there a way to disable unsafe cache and still achieve 115MiB/s backup speed? None of the node has any RAID Controller. HDD and SSD connected to standard SATA port.
Thanks for providing any solution you might have!
