Build a VM with the same look and feel as the Proxmox base and LVC’s

This should be straight forward, but how to build it is a mystery to me. What I’m looking to do is to create a Debian 12 based VM that has the same terminal behavior that we experience as the Proxmox base and Proxmox generated Debian LXC’s. The specific problems I’m having difficulty with is the inability to have cut and paste available, the inability to highlight and select text on the screen with a mouse, and the presence of a scrollbar to view and select history. Not having these tools is more than frustrating.

I’ve seen some others sort of ask the same question, but the response was less than helpful for me. “Go here and try to learn it,” is useless. I tried it and it didn’t work for me. What I’m looking for is a tried and true procedure that will create a VM with what I need each and every time. Maybe a listing of modules to install and some specific configuration guidance. I’m NOT looking to load up a full window GUI either. I’d rather it be just terminal based (just like Proxmox base and LXC’s are). I’m sure there must be an answer that will work, but I’m so far unable to find it.
