Hello everyone,

I have a Proxmox server Virtual Environment 7.1-4 with 6 VMs running Windows 11. Everything ran fine for 4 years, until about 2 weeks ago. When I log on to two VMs, I only get a black screen. The task manager can be called up, the explorer.exe process is also running, but no desktop appears. What could be the reason for this after such a long time?

Greetings Matthias

Bad Windows Updates... i guess? I would also recommend changing the CPUtype. At least on the default (simple remove qemu64), as this can result in better performance. Of course, CPUtype “Host” would be optimal.

Is there a specific reason why you are still using Proxmox 7? This version has been EOL for a long time.

When I changed the CPU type, Windows 11 crashed. I didn't update because everything was running and I didn't need anything else. Never touch a running system...
I think I'll install Proxmox 8 on a second server and see if the RDP connection works again.
