I am trying to figure out what the best solution to deploy 2x5 TB HDDs would be. Currently, I have them mounting to Proxmox upon boot. Then I have a container pointing to them as mount points. Each drive has a 4400 GB mount point on it. Is there a better model? I am sure there is. I am wanting to setup a SAMBA server with redundancy.

Take a look at Freenas. It has built-in functionality for SAMBA and it will allow you to utilize your 2 drives in a mirror configuration (using OpenZFS). Be careful with the SAMBA installation on any existing AD setup.

I have heard about FreeNAS for years, but never actually thought about using it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Any suggestions for how to set up the two drives in Proxmox?

I using Proxmox for storage too. "Proxmox + ZFS + Webmin = Storage" We had Fresnas in past, but never, never, never. It is highly depending on the right hardware. With proxmox we only once had a problem installing on an HP Server ML10. Every Supermicro, HPML350 or DELL T550.... never had any problems.

Important: Server with unixsupport and real SAScontroller, no Hardwarraid. The ZFS on PVE works really great. I can really recommend.

But search in the forum. There are really man threads about.
