Subject: Best Proxmox version to install for clustering with existing 8.2.2 nodes?

Hi everyone,

I currently have two Proxmox VE nodes in production running version 8.2.2 and I'm planning to add a third node to form a cluster.

I have access to the 8.0 ISO and also to the latest 8.4 ISO, but not the 8.2.2 ISO.

My main questions are:

Can I add a node with version 8.0 to a cluster with nodes running 8.2.2?

Would installing 8.4 on the new node cause any compatibility issues with 8.2.2 nodes?

What is the recommended approach to avoid cluster or HA problems?

Any reason not to update the existing ones to 8.4.x?

IIRC the recommendation is they should be on the same version to join a cluster.

They have 8.3 here, I see but not older 8.x: http://download.proxmox.com/iso/

Hi everyone,

I have a question regarding running a Proxmox VE cluster with one node on a different version.

Is it a problem to have one machine in the cluster running a more recent Proxmox VE version than the others?

This upgraded node will not have any VMs running on it — it will only be part of the cluster. Eventually, I plan to update all the nodes to the same (latest) version.

Has anyone experienced issues with this kind of setup?

Thanks in advance!
