Hi
on my cluster i use Proxmox Backup Server to backup my VM.
My vm is on shared storage LVM on ISCSI Array
I notice during backup vm are impacted by the backup , slow performance ...
Is there a way to pbs work properly on this configuration without down performance on the vm ?

Thanks for your help

A few hints:
  • Enable QEMU guest agent + dirty‑bitmap backups if you haven't - make sure your VM backups are using the “snapshot mode” with dirty‑bitmaps. This avoids full raw reads every time and only transfers changed blocks after the first backup.
  • Set / tune bandwidth limits : In PBS you can set bwlimit for backups so they don’t saturate the iSCSI link. Even a modest cap can keep VM latency acceptable.
  • Schedule backups smartly : run backups during off‑peak hours or stagger jobs so multiple VMs aren’t hammering the array at once.
  • Network separation - If possible, put PBS traffic on a separate NIC/VLAN from VM traffic so backup reads don’t congest the same path your guests use.
There are other things to look at but I'd say primarily those - perhaps the easiest being a good schedule outside of office hours.
