Hi everybody
I'started reading here some weeks ago and had my first touching points with proxmox (PVE). But know I'm somehow confused and not shure about how to proceed. Maybe I can get some help here (hope I'm in the right place)...
I had an Server 2012R2 bare metal (SSD system disk) on an Microserver Gen8 for many years here at my home. Used it für datastorage (HDD1) with AD and GPO for my family an also monitoring of windows updates on the clients. All data was stored on this server. With WSEE (dashboard) I backed up the clients and the data on an dedicated HDD(2), also with file version history. On the third HDD(3) was the backup of the server itself. All 6 months I made a manual backup to an external HDD with is kept on a physically separated place.
Additionally, there are some Rasspberry's (Loxberry, Pihole) and an Dell Optiplex 3040 micro with Wireguard and nextcloud running on it.
Few weeks ago I set up proxmox on an second Dell Optiplex 3040 micro, installed Windows Server 2022 as VM and migrated the AD / DC succesfully. After that worked, I installed Proxmox on the Gen8 (both PVE are nodes i the same datacenter) and migrated de VM with Server 2022 --> works so far).
Actually I'm trying to get WSEE running again (works till I struggle with SSL certificat ossues with the connector). Meanwhile gt used to PVE an digged in reading about PBS. So I'm not shure if the better way would be going on with PBS instead of fixing WSEE.
The plan would be a new server with this specs:
Now, what is the best practice?
- An SSD für the new system for proxmox ant the server VM, plus the future VM (Pihole, loyberry, nextcloud and Wireguard server?). In this machine the HDD1 for DATA an HDD3 for the PBS backup from the Gen8?
- Gen8: PVE (test) and PBS with the HDD for Backup of the other machine)
- In adition, backup the HDD to nextcloud physicylly separated?
For machine 1 wich HDD/SSD for the system an VM's? Raid or ZFS?
Physically I can connect on the new board:
Many thanks and sorry for the newbe questions, but all the reading in the last days confused me....

- ZOTAC GeForce GT 710 2GB GDDR3 1xHDMI 1xDVI 1xVGA
- 400W be quiet! PURE POWER 11 | 80+Gold
- 3200 64GB Kingston FURY Beast KIT (2x 32GB)
- TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS mATX / AMD B550 / 4xSATA 6 / 2xUSB3.2 / DVI,HDMI,DP

Physically I can connect on the new board:
- With both M.2 slots occupied: If you use both M.2 slots, the lower M.2 slot (M.2_2) will disable SATA ports 5 and 6. This means you can connect a maximum of 4 SATA devices (HDD/SSD), plus the two M.2 SSDs.
- With only one M.2 slot occupied:If you only use the M.2_1 slot, all six SATA ports are available. This means you can connect one M.2 SSD plus six SATA devices (HDD/SSD).
Many thanks and sorry for the newbe questions, but all the reading in the last days confused me....
