Best performing VM storage for PVE 8.2.4?

Trying to outperform vmware virtual SATA harddrives in a proof of concept to switch to Proxmox. I cant get funding for support until I can prove it will work as well.
Currently using the local thin lvm but its coming up short. What do you suggest?
