[SOLVED] Backups Failing - Permission Denied (kernel 6.8.4-2-pve)

Hello,

Since upgrading to kernel 6.8.4-2-pve, my backups are failing randomly. I'm seeing a log of permission denied errors.

E.g.

ERROR: Backup of VM 10000 failed - unable to open file '/etc/pve/nodes/pve01/qemu-server/10000.conf.tmp.1685592' - Permission denied

Is this a known issue, or is anyone else seeing this? I can downgrade to 6.5.13-5-pve until this is fixed.

Hi,
this error might indicate that this node of the cluster has no quorum, being therefore in read only mode. Please check the output of pvecm status and post the systemd journal output related to pve cluster and corosync journalctl -u pve-cluster.service -u corosync.service -b. Pinning and booting the older 6.5 kernel is fine.

Thanks, especially for the hint! I was running a two-node cluster. I added a qdevice and that seems to have resolved the issue.

Was something added in 6.8 to cause this? I've been running a two-node cluster for a while and never had any issues (maybe dumb luck?).

this is the default behavior of corosync and the proxmox cluster filesystem, for details see https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/pve-admin-guide.html#chapter_pmxcfs I guess you just never lost quorum up until now.
