backups crashing like once every few days

I have a VM that just locks up on backup say about once a week. Which VM it is seems to be at random, and I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this.

I have to qm unlock ### the VM before it can do anything, then force stop and start it again.

Can anyone advise please?

What guest OS locks up and how is it configured in Proxmox?

System configuration? RAM,CPU,Storage etc.

What type of storage are you using for the backup destination?

Which VM it is seems to be random, but it seems so far every time it's been an Ubuntu guest. These are all KVM VMs, not OpenVZ (if that's what you meant by configuration?).

This latest case has 4 cores, 1GB of RAM, storage within the VM for the OS, except it mounts SMB shares for the content it deals with (SMB stored in a NAS, not on any proxmox host).

The backup destination is connected via NFS, and the NAS serving the export has it as ZFS backed. The NAS host is FreeNAS.

I'm not sure which is the most useful logs, but here's the output of the "task" leading up to the halted backup:

After which the task just sits there spinning it's wheels. This seems to happen at erratic times, I don't yet see any pattern.

It looks like one of my nodes wasn't properly updating to new versions. I updated it to match the other node and backups seem to be working properly now. Speculating on this, as I'm not sure if this is for sure the fix. So far no issue after like 2-3 weeks.
