Backup straight to folder

Hello,

I'm trying to understand the functionalities of the tape backup system.
Is it possible for PVE to save straight to a tape (LTO) attached to a PBS?
Or do backups need to go to a datastore, that will then go to tape?

backup always have to go first to a datastore, which can then be backed up to tape
