Backup/Restore makes host unresponsive

Hi all,

we run a host with about 20 openvz and 10 kvm guests.
Doing backup and restore causes a lot of IO load on the host which troubles all guests, making them very slow and the host itself gets nearly unresponsive. Is there a way to preserve a certain minimum of resources to keep the host running even while backup or restore actions run?

You can set a bandwidth limit in /etc/vzdump.conf.
