Are the Proxmox appliances, such as the Fedora 9 Standard one, installable on and migratable to with other Linux servers with KVM? IOW, if for whatever reason, Proxmox was unavailable to me as a host, could I take a new appliance, or one off an old server and move it to, say, a fresh Fedora 9-as-host install. Can I load the image with Virtual Machine Manager?

Those are OpenVZ appliances, so they need OpenVZ (not KVM)
