AMD GPU passthrough

Hi all,

I am trying to passthrough my GPU (AMD RX 580) to a Windows 10 VM. I have seemingly successfully followed the GPU passthrough guide and have the VM running. The GPU shows up in device manager but is disabled because it encountered a problem. Every time I try to instal the AMD GPU Radeon drivers, the install stops, with an error that something went wrong "Error 1604 - Radeon software install cannot proceed as some previous Radeon Software applications failed to correctly uninstall." I tried the AMD cleanup utility but same error. I think it may be related to the fact that the GPU is disabled.

Any help would be appreciated.

I am currently running 2 proxmox installation each having an amd gpu rx5xx and got no issues. Can you confirm that you have installed an up-to-date version of Windows 10? After installation (and without letting windows download a driver it should display as a Microsoft Basic Adapter). If that's not the case then please reinstall Windows (I have used a sept 2019 ISO). Also make sure that you have display set to none and not spice or whatever as it has given me troubles before. Moreover I suggest you download the latest radeon drivers (released 2 December 2019) after installing Windows guest drivers (see the wiki for "windows guest") please be aware that after radeon drivers installation colors are probably wrong. To solve that you open screen settings and set 4:4:4 YCD pixel format (I can't remember exactly so I am sorry for any errors on the exact name of that). If you need further advices feel free to ask!

P. S. also make sure you are using machine type q35 with omvf firmware.
