Today i have update mu 8.0.2 node with latest packages and now i am not able to have my networking at boot up.

This seem that ifupdown2-pre is failing. Since networking depend on this service network is not coming up. I can manually fix it by doing a systemctl stop ifupdown2-pre and start again. And starting the network again and all came back to normal. But each time i boot i have no network.

the update install a new version of the ifupdown2 package .

current version.

First place to do is to page through "journalctl -b0" and look for any obvious "smoking gun".
Its possible your NIC is not initialized in time under new kernel. The resources that come up in this search "ubuntu nic delay boot" should assist if thats the case.

Hi,

I have tried booting the previous version of the kernel and same thing.
in the log just before the ifupdown2-pre fail i can see a "Timed out for waiting the udev queue being empty"

udevadm[949]: Timed out for waiting the udev queue being empty.
udevadm[950]: Timed out for waiting the udev queue being empty.
systemd[1]: ifupdown2-pre.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE
systemd[1]: ifupdown2-pre.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'.
systemd[1]: Failed to start ifupdown2-pre.service - Helper to synchronize boot up for ifupdown.

Not sure if it is related.
Thanks

Finally found the root cause. On this server a virtual CRDOM was mount and the source was no more accessible. the udev timeout on this.
Thanks for your input bbgeek this was really appreciated and helpful.

Had a similar problem, and the thing with me was that i had 2 failed drives, and it tried to read something from it, timeout, and the network did not come up.
Changed them, and everything is fine now.
