After install, 8.3.1 works fine; after upgrade, black screen AMD 370 HX 890M

Hi,
Can someone help me please figure out how to get this mess to boot using my igpu? This is a relatively new device, the Ryzen 9 AI 370 HX. Oddly, it boots just fine with the installation I downloaded, 8.3.1, but after doing an upgrade through the management website, only adding 'nomodeset' to the linux command in grub will get it to boot to a login prompt.

I am new to this and don't know how to debug the problem. Any advice is appreciated.

nevermind. This appears to be a firmware issue with Beelink, the manufacturer of the PC. I have not tested the supposed solution yet, but for others who have this issue, see this thread:
