After in place upgrade to 5, how to use zfs

I have a cluster of 2 nodes and each node has only one drive.
After the upgrade from 4.4 to 5.0, I still have only one storage showing which is lvm.
How do I use the zfs for storage replication feature since I only have lvm.
How do I create a zpool on existing drive?

So as I understand, I cannot use the drive where I had proxmox installed as ZFS because it is already in use.
So the question is that proxmox 5 can be installed on a small drive and use the other bigger drives for ZFS. Is this correct?
Also I wanted to know, what kind of drive you recommend to install proxmox 5 on?
Would usb flash drive be ok to use?

No sd card and no usd sticks or similar.
Normal hdd or ssd with good duration, should used.
