Hello

I have installed PVE in a server with 2 x 2T SAS drives configured in RAID1 (final total capacity 1.86 TB). I partitioned with gPart but while installing I could not select those partitions, basically the pve installer did not saw then. Then I decided to reduce the size of the pve partition so I can install VM later on the rest of the partition. I formatted the unallocated space with gpart and now the system see it but when I try to create a directory still says no disks unused.

What should I do to install a directory on sd4 partition?

Why an extra partition for the VMs? When using a non ZFS file system, the PVE installer sets up a LV group. The `pve-root` is used for PVE itself and additionally you have the `pve-data` logical volume which is thin provisioned. This can be used to store VMs and containers. Instead of files you have logical volumes which will be passed to the VM directly to use as disk.
