Adding a mount point with larger disk space than what is available.

Sorry if this has already been asked but I couldn't find an exisiting thread with the same line of enquiry. I have an 8TB HDD connected to my datacenter. I've created a mount point, on one of my containers, using this HDD and set the disk space to 8000GB. I would have thought this would have thrown an error as storages always have less space than the listed specification.

I've experimented and you can change this mount point disk space number to 131072 GB.

Does setting the mount point storage disk space to a number that exceeds currently existing storage do anything?

My assumption is that this number is a cap on the current available resources so that if storage is added to the datacenter, then this mount point storage does not go over the storage amount?
