Access files in snapshots?

Hi John,
suppose you have a snapshot of our drive in raw image format, I would suggest to attach the backup image as a new drive on an existing machine. This machine can be a Live-CD iso-image like SystemRescueCd. So you can mount / access the backup drive and select files to copy.

Hi Juergen,

thanks for your reply.
Yeah that should work but i still hope for a better solution.
Starting a VM to access files on my local storage feels strange,

Regards,

John

ZFS filesystems can be inspected if you set snapdir to visible. For zvols, just clone the snapshot to a new name and present the partitions inside via kpartx to the system and mount the partition somewhere, no VM involved.
