A couple of questions about memory and IO Delays

Hello!

I'm new to Proxmox and I have a question about memory Proxmox shows a virtual machine.

I have 2 KVM with 2 GB of memory allocated to each. I have Proxmox 1.5 with 2.6.18 kernel.

The problem is that if I look at the current memory on Proxmox's interface, I can see, for example, that the virtual machine consumes 1.7 GB, but if I look at the current memory of the operating system's shell I can see the current memory lower (700 MB less) than shown by the interface of Proxmox. Why this difference? What is the real memory is consumed? With the other virtual machine I see the same with less difference, 300-400 MB less.

And another question not related to memory. Delays in IO to mark the Proxmox is about 10% and 20% sometimes, it's normal? What are the reasons for delays?

Sorry if this post is repeated I searched the forum but have not found anything to help me, and sorry for my bad english.

Thanks for everything,

Because those are totally different things (technically).

What is the real memory is consumed?

Proxmox shows the memory consumed on the host (what you call 'real memory consumed'). Not all of that memory is used by the Guest OS, and could be freed theoretically. With KVM, the best way to do that is KSM (only available with latest 2.6.35 kernel).

And another question not related to memory. Delays in IO to mark the Proxmox is about 10% and 20% sometimes, it's normal? What are the reasons for delays?

Sorry, how do you meassure those 'Delays in IO'?
