Hello,

I'm currently looking to buy new PVE nodes. For networking adapters, is there a better one? Is there one with better linux/pve support?

  • Broadcom 57416 Dual Port 10Gbe Base-T
  • Intel X710-T2L Dual Port 10Gbe Base-T
I did find some issues about broadcom cards in the forum. Is it just isolate problems? Seem like there is less posts about issue with intel cards.

Thanks.

I use Intel X550 and Intel X540 10GbE without issues in production. They are running latest firmware.

For 1GbE, I use Intel i350 with latest firmware also without issues.

I use Mellanox ConnectX-3 with latest firmware at home but obviously use a supported version in production.

I wasn't able to buy 10 GBE only cards for a while now, so we always went with 10/25 GBE cards from the same brands. Broadcom, Intel and Mellanox work also quite well, if you have working GBICs and of course up-to-date firmware. I had some problems with DELL-branded GBICs in the past, yet that was not an OS problem, but a hardware one. Changing the GBICs always worked.
