Ok. So it's magically started working this morning. It seems we resolved the issue by setting the primary group of root to be root with the command :
usermod -g root root
The primary group of root was ssh before that fore some reason (root was also in the group root).

After a fresh install of proxmox (on top of debian buster, using proxmox-ve package) we are experiencing errors with terminal commands. The web interface is up and running and we can create, launch, backup, restore VMs etc...
