I just gave the latest kernel a try and it seems the error is gone (Linux pve 6.5.11-7-pve #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC PMX 6.5.11-7 (2023-12-05T09:44Z) x86_64 GNU/Linux)
I get this warning now:
[ 0.430482] pnp 00:03: disabling [mem 0xc0000000-0xcfffffff] because it overlaps 0000:00:02.0 BAR 9...
Hi,
i just tried GVT with my device: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Alder Lake-N [UHD Graphics]
But i get the message: [drm] Unsupported device. GVT-g is disabled
Do i need to set something in the BIOS? My understanding is that it should work with Alder Lake..
Hi,
thank you for this very helpful thread, it really gave some more understanding and also i like how "old" settings are described (which i carried on).
However i still fail to pass through my iGPU ("renderD128" pass through would be sufficient):
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel...
Thank you for your fint, but it doesnt work. The re-attached disk is for obvious reasons now smaller and cant be attached:
"cannot attach ata--part4 to nvme-part3: device is too small"
I guess i will now create a fresh pool on the resized disk and move everything around?! Or is there somne other...
I already send a lot of time reading guides, thats why the params might be mixed.. None of them did the trick so far. If you can point me towards a working one?
There is a mistake in my post, it is not "/proc/cmdline" but "/etc/kernel/cmdline". I did reduce the line to nothing but...
Hi,
i need some space for swapping, and following this guide it should be better outside the ZFS Raid1 (2 disks):
https://pve.proxmox.com/pve-docs/local-zfs-plain.html
What i was thinking of is to:
- remove one disk from the pool
- create 2 partitions on the removed disks (ZFS & swap)
- create...
Hi,
i also tried to setup GPU passthrough. I am only looking for the decoding capabilities. My /proc/cmdline looks like this:
intel_iommu=on iommu=pt nofb nomodeset initcall_blacklist=sysfb_init video=efifb:off,vesafb:off
In the VM i get a "dev/dri/card0" but i am missing "renderD128" i used...
I just ran into the same issue, i added a PCI-E device.
Did chroot into the system, remove GPU passthrough and could then update the /etc/network/interfaces on the console (don't forget the "bridge-ports").
Afterwards i realized just updating the interfaces would have done the job. Anyway...
So now i can see the disks, and also i can successfully recreate BCD following e.g. this guide:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wq0mrScd04o
But when i boot the issue persists. Running out of ideas now
I tried some more: Loading vio drivers on the recovery mode using a W11 USB stick.
Now i can see the bootdisk but still i cant see the attached EFI devices. Do they need any other drivers different to the main disk?
Hello,
i am doing a migration from PVE7.1 with LVM to PVE8.0 with ZFS using fresh hardware.
So far 4 linux migrations went flawless: Create a backup, transfer the backup file and the configuration. Do the restore on the new host.
But then there is also a W11 VM and this ends in a Bluescreen...
Thanks for the listing, i will stick with ZFS, it sounds very interesting.
This is now a bit off-topic, but can PVE use the ZFS snapshot functionality for the creation of backups?
Thank you for the hints.
The fio result are the other way round. I guess i will play a bit more with the VM to see how they perform - this is what is important in the end.
What would you recommend for a "consumer hardware" RAID-1? MD Raid, ZFS, other?
Hi,
i just made a fresh install with upgraded hardware (https://www.cpu-monkey.com/en/compare_cpu-intel_celeron_j4125-vs-intel_processor_n100, DDR4-3200 and a fast NVMKC3000 PCIe 4.0). On the former system i have a mdadm RAID-1 with 2 Sandisk value SSD drives and LVM on top of this.
Now i...

You can find other also still failing on latest kernel. I reverted the kernel to make it work again:
