zfs best practices: 36x 6tb hdd + enterprise nvme

Hello together, there are a lot of posts here about ZFS, which makes it a bit difficult to compress the needed information. Therefore a simple "best practice" queestion to the experienced ZFS admins: I have two Adaptec 6805 raid servers with 36x 6TB HDDs each and would like to enable HBA...

Ceph Cluster different OSD sizes - performance/issues expected?

aren't this values are more or less set by proxmox? In my example at least, weight is set to the size of the disk and reweight is set to 1 for all osds, see image.

Ceph Cluster different OSD sizes - performance/issues expected?

Hi, Can I expect degraded performance or other issues if my CEPH cluster contains different sizes, e.g. 50x 3840GB Kingston DC1500M, and 50x7680GB Kingston DC1500M SSDs distributed over 5 nodes?

CEPH multiple MDS on the same node

Hi, I am running a 5-node ceph cluster (Octopus) and when I increased the number of active MDs from 2 to 4 I experienced a gain of performance in my CephFS. Since I have a lot of client using the cephfs pool I think it might be a good idea to increase the number of MDs even more...

    HP DL 380 Gen 9 issues on 5.4.73 & 5.4.78 kernel

i have replaced the network adapter 536 FLB (broadcom based) with a 560 flb (intel based). Since then it runs with the latest proxmox kernel. 536FLB runs only with the old kernel 5.4.78-2

CephFS user/permission conflict between different nodes (best practices?)

Hi, we are using CephFS on a 3-node proxmox cluster. We have mounted the CephFS to /home on several different Debian clients. All Debian clients (server) see the files of the other Debian clients in the cephfs mount (/home). It happens that client XY has services on Debian client 1 and Debian...

    HP DL 380 Gen 9 issues on 5.4.73 & 5.4.78 kernel

I compared the relevant part of journalctl with the working 5.4.78-2 kernel and the non-working 5.4.140 kernel: not working 5.4.140: working 5.4.78-2: any ideas @t.lamprecht ?

    HP DL 380 Gen 9 issues on 5.4.73 & 5.4.78 kernel

symptoms are quite the same as described in the thread here. If I boot with 5.4.78-2 network is working fine. I see an eno49 and eno50 network device. When I boot with 5.4.140 no network devices can be found anymore: Attached you find the DMESG, journal and syslog outputs. Btw, I can also...

    HP DL 380 Gen 9 issues on 5.4.73 & 5.4.78 kernel

I can confirm it works with kernel 5.4.78-2 without any problems on HP BL460c g9, but not with newer kernel 5.4.140-1-pve. Why does the newest kernel does not include the fixes @t.lamprecht ? I don't want to stuck on 5.4.78-2 forever, especially because it comes with ceph-common 12 but I need...

    CEPH pool without replication?

because I have temporary data that is unimportant and I don't want to waste disk space. I can't find a cli statement to accomplish this. I only find something about replicated_rule or erasure crush rule when creating the pool https://docs.ceph.com/en/latest/rados/operations/pools/ But that...

    CEPH pool without replication?

Hi, is it possible to create a CEPH pool that does not replicate and where I have 100% of the storage available? We are talking about temporary data that is unimportant and may be lost. Setting a pool with size/min to 1/1 does not mean that it does not replicate. Hence the question.

we had a script running, where we did an "strace" on every guest. The strace command on a qemu-kvm server causes freezes.

New Cluster: [TOTEM ] FAILED TO RECEIVE after 4mins.

Hi, I setup a new cluster of 4 nodes. Exact 4mins. after I restarted corosync, the cluster becomes unquorate. One node seems to form a new corosync ring and the other 3 nodes still have their old corosync ring. Those 3 nodes are still working fine, only the one nodes leavs the ring. Syslog...

    two corosync rings?

Hi, I saw it is possible to setup two different rings in proxmox. What is the advantage to do so? Is the second ring a failover ring if the first ring becomes slow or unavailable?

TASK ERROR: start failed: org.freedesktop.systemd1.UnitExists: Unit scope already exists.

it seems like switching the network adapter to virtio fixes the issue, freezes are gone.

TASK ERROR: start failed: org.freedesktop.systemd1.UnitExists: Unit scope already exists.

I started only one VM with a network adapter. These lines were added in the ip details a output, so I think they are relevant:

Host Node network config: vmbr0 is used for all VMs and CTs vmbr0:0 is used for corosync. eno2 is used for ceph traffic (currently just testing, most nodes use local ext4 dir storages) VM config: I already tried many different configs. - virtio iscsi single - virtio iscsi - iothread/ no...

TASK ERROR: start failed: org.freedesktop.systemd1.UnitExists: Unit scope already exists.

I am still on that issue and figured out: Once I remove the network adapter from the proxmox VM, it does not freeze anymore. If I add it again - it is the same if it is virtio, intel or realtek - it freezes. Also enabled the firewall dropping all incoming packets, still freezing.
