NVMe SSD. Slow disk speed inside VM

I believe KVM (similarly to wmWare) has implemented a nvme device class. Potentially it helps when dealing w ultrafast storage. The nvme is expected to perform using emulated native protocol, instead of using aged SCSI. Who Pls advice how to implement

    zfs 2.1 roadmap

I hinted to the following: You was an unfortunate to get a 3 disk failure within the same vdev (3 out of 12 disks). If those were 3 disk from different vdev, you be fine. It was a very unlikely failure, but it happened. In case, of the dRAID, a failure of ANY 3 disks out of 36 will result in...

    zfs 2.1 roadmap

    1) You have had a terrible month, but it was NOT due to poor pool performance, indeed. 2) Your debacle is not a coincidence. For modern installations, raidz2 is not enough. Here is a publication from old 2010 predicting that something like your case will be happening more and more often by 2019...

    zfs 2.1 roadmap

300tb implies dozens of drives. Why raidz2 for such a huge pool? Why not raidz3 to start with? Correct me, if I'm wrong, yet it is my understanding that draid is for those, who want even better redundancy, beyond raidz3... Otherwise, why somebody should choose 6 hdd draidz(lets say 4 data,1...

[SOLVED] ZFS replica ~2x larger than original

If your target is to save the space, then you may consider using zfs-compression and zeroing free-space inside the VM. It will help even if your zvol is not sparse.

    snapshot feature is not available

    1) Conceptually the virtualization is about broadening the choice, increasing the freedom, not narrowing it down. 2) There is a valid business case to justify the "inconsistency". The appliance snapshots are very handy for recovering from an update gone wrong. The partial (appliance only)...

    snapshot feature is not available

A potential solution is to use lxc.mount.entry=/path/in/host/mount_point mount_point_in_container none bind 0 0 (for details see https://wiki.debian.org/LXC#External_mounts_inside_the_container). The CT operates fine, yet the snapshot feature gets back to work! The only drawback so far is that...

    snapshot feature is not available

I believe it make sense to bump this topic once more. I've noticed that there is an inconsistency in treatment of LXC snapshots and backups. Proxmox "unfairly" discriminates against the containers which have bind mounts, doesn't allow snapshots for these VMs ("snapshot feature is not available"...

[SOLVED] [z_null_int] with 99.99 % IO load after 5.1 upgrade

You probably shall document it somewhere. I believe the "normal" ZFS implementation relies on DKMS mechanism, but it is not the case with Proxmox. Particularly in my case, I was very confused when "dmesg | grep ZFS" returned 0.7.6, while 0.7.7 was actually installed. Now I understand the reason.

[SOLVED] [z_null_int] with 99.99 % IO load after 5.1 upgrade

I just want to add that I needed upgrade to 4.13.16-2-pve for the 0.7.7 fix to work. Pure ZOL upgrade didn't work until after kernel upgrade to the latest. Even relatively new 4.13.13-6-pve kernel didn't work. Thanx Proxmox team for delivering the fix.

    kernel source/dkms issue

I cannot build kernel module for Acronis Backup. Here below is dkms make.log. The same module compiles just fine on Debian 9. Proxmox is installed on top Debian 9, thus it seems that Proxmox kernel is a culprit. Despite being installed in non-standard way Proxmox itself function just fine...
