adding kernel boot args at install time
I searched the proxmox forum a bit more and found what I needed. Ref: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/proxmox-ve-4-2-no-more-boot-parameters-option.28144/ Pressing the 'e' key on the keyboard while at the install CD menu will bring up the edit screen for that boot item.
