Problem there is that if you have a 100G zvol and you want to create a snapshot, you need another 100G.
The whole idea of snapshots, is that you don't need the same exact amount of storage as you have in your original data, but that the snapshot is a delta. That's how they should work, only with...
I know there are multiple tools, but I couldn't find one with the convenience like Sanoid.
Sanoid does 2 things:
- Make periodic ZFS snapshots
- Send them to another host
Yeah, but that's CLI-only and it doesn't make and save periodic snapshots.
That's the whole point. :) There is no such...
While I think, such operations would benefit from a proper GUI around it.
Sure, PVE is not a fileserver, but it does make use of an underlying filesystem. Would be great to have at least basic manipulation tools for that. Like creating directories, or making zfs datasets.
Surprisingly PVE can...
Because it would be a great way to make proper, ZFS-based, backups.
The currently built-in backup mechanisms are VERY expensive, zfs snapshots are quite efficient. If would be great if you could simply sync the entire machine, via zfs, to another zfs machine (maybe another PVE machine).
That...
Good afternoon,
Another thing I truly mis in PVE:
A way to make snapshots on a ZFS level and send them to another host.
Basically this:

Such a thing, with the zfs snapshots names so that they could be used for Windows Shadow Copy via Samba, would be...
That you next to creating datasets, you can't create or manipulate directories within existing filesystems.
There is no filebrowser to do standard stuff.
I know my way around Linux fairly well, but especially with something like PVE, I'd like to stick to the GUI as much as possible. :)
Hi there,
I know that there are ways to manage ZFS from within PVE but one thing I truly miss, is the creation and management of ZFS datasets.
Of course you can do that manually with zfs create and then setting whatever parameters you need, but it would be great if that task could be done from...
