Thanks for the reply.
All of the disks are SSD so there shouldn't be a head movement and having to spin again to slow it down. The guys at Proxmox told me to put the journal on the same disk as the OSD because with an SSD it would be OK.
So both the OSD and the journal for each is on the same...
OK, so I appear to gotten Ceph up and running nicely.
I have created a VM with a simple 20GB hard drive running CentOS 7 on there and done some speed tests. They really are not great at all. I am aware of the posts and threads surrounding the Samsung SSD 850 Pro disks, but had to prove this...
I see what you mean now about how the PGCount is not an exact science. I still have a health warning but now because I have too many PGs per OSD.
Is it possible to change the PG count at a later date if I add more storage? I guess would have to be via command line. If so then I'll set it...
Hi alexskysilk
Thanks once again for your replies and assistance.
That makes perfect sense now you have explained the calculation. I was using 100% as the %Data instead of 33% because of the 3 replicas. Explains totally why I was getting such weird numbers :)
Thanks for the link about the...
Hi alexskysilk
Thanks again for you reply and assistance.
I think my brain just isn't getting the whole PG count thing properly. I followed their calculation listed manually on the website as well and didn't get any where near what the website was telling me. I was using the "Target PGs per...
Thanks for the speedy reply alexskysilk
That makes good sense all around. I could go with the HA VM for the ISOs and then share that out via iSCSI and mount it as storage that way.
Backups again sounds good on separate system. I'd need to get another one for this.
The PG number you give me...
Hi Everyone
So I have been struggling on with my test Proxmox Cluster. I now have it installed with Proxmox VE 4.2 on 3 x servers. The corosync network has been set up on it's own NICs and VLAN. Linux bonds have been set up for Ceph and Ceph has been installed on the cluster.
Now I have...
The question really isn't general at all. And I am the network admin, as well as system admin, and I know how to set up the switches too. What I need is some assistance with is Proxmox please?
Well the servers need to go into a Production environment so I need to do my best to put in 100% uptime as I can.
There are 3 x 4 port PCIe NICS. So If I lose a card I could lost 4 ports in one go.
I will hopefully be using two physical switches stacked as one logical switch, allowing me to...
Hello again brad_mssw
I have done the direct connect that you are talking about in my home lab. 3 x Dual port 10Gbe cards in a ring. It works great but then obviously you can't increase the cluster size with more nodes at a later date if you want to. Unless you know a way to do that you'd...
Hello brad_mssw
Thank you for your reply.
You are correct about the bonding. There are various different ways of doing it like active/passive etc. I am aware that even at 8 bonds I will never actually get 1 connection that runs faster than the 1Gbe speeds, but hopefully if I configure it...
Hello
Thanks for the reply.
I have been playing around with the OVS GUI to try and make it work and am just running into brick walls all of the time. Trouble is the complete lack of any documentation around configuring this via the GUI. So to be brutally honest I haven't got a clue where to...
Hello
I am becoming increasingly confused with Proxmox and am hoping that someone here will be able to help me. I have emailed Proxmox but they don't seem to answer, or if they do then they don't understand what I am asking and just refer me here.
I have 3 servers with 14 x 1Gbe NICs in...
Hello
I need to set up a 3 node HA cluster using Proxmox. This will use local disks in each of the nodes for a Ceph cluster as well. I am going to use VE 4.2.
So my question is really about the preferred method to do the networking for this. I have a layer 3 Cisco SG300-52 switch and will...
