    mount.nfs: Protocol not supported

Hi all, I had a similar message when trying to connect a Synology nfs share from within a debian vm. Was used to creating nfs shares like this with Omnios+Nappit nfs targets: mount -t nfs 10.10.10.10:tank/vms /mnt/nfs Tried the same with a Synology nfs share but got a protocol error. After...

    [SOLVED] ZFS swap crashes system

Hi all, Yesterday i spent the whole day with random crashes from a newly installed proxmox 4.1 hypervisor (xeon e3-1245 v2, 16GB, 2 x 480GB Samsung enterprise ssd in raid 1). The machine was installed a couple of weeks earlier and had no problems when the vms where residing on the local zfs...

    Random crashing version 3.3

Hi nsw, Udo is correct. We have had major problems with the supermicro x9scm-f boards (total hypervisor crash when starting a big copy) Turned out that one of the nics had issues with linux. This was not a proxmox issue, we managed to reproduce this error on debian and centos with plain kvm...

Proxmox VE 3.1 slow NFS reads

Hello all, i have an addition to this thread: the freeze problem was not a Proxmox problem but a Linux network driver problem with the Supermicro X9SCM-F mainboards that we used. We have tested with Debian plus KVM and Centos plus KVM: all had the same problem. We have replaced the hypervisors...

Proxmox cluster traffic on separate nics?

Hello all, we have a three node Proxmox cluster. The nodes each have 4 Gbit nics. Nic1 does the management traffic. Is it necessary to run the cluster traffic on a dedicated NIC (eth1?) in a different IP range? Thank you in advance. Regards, Dirk Adamsky

    omnios napp-it no_root_squash

Hi Kamurral, That can be confusing indeed. You have the set the NFS sharing on at the ZFS filesystem. But instead of giving the default value of "on" please give NFS arguments like: rw=@192.168.20.0/24,root=@192.168.20.0/24tank/databackup/onlinebackup The section root.... does the trick...

    omnios napp-it poor NFS performance

Hello Kamurral, You can improve the read speed bij creating a mirror of the 2 2TB drives. You can improve the write speed by adding a ZIL log SSD device to the 2TB mirror. Use good SSD's (with capacitors) like Intel DC S3500. For further info please do a posting at the servethehome forum. The...

Proxmox VE 3.1 slow NFS reads

Hi Warod, thank you for the input. I now have better NFS performance by changing our storage platform from Freenas to Omnios+Napp-it. The throughput has changed from around 10MB/s to around 70MB/s. Unfortunately i do have an issue: when i backup large vm's (~100GB) the backup freezes, the...

    Proxmox hypervisor crash during backup

Hi Marco, the 3 proxmox hypervisors only have small ssd bootdisks (60GB, 60GB and 40GB). They are in a datacenter 60km away.... I do have several other single node proxmox setups with local storage that backup large vm's without problems. The issue is that i need my vm's on shared storage (in...

    Proxmox hypervisor crash during backup

Hi symmcom, Thank you for your input. i ran this job through putty on the first of our 3 proxmox nodes. The vm is on an nfs share (omnios+napp-it) and the backup target is another nfs share on the same storage box. My collegue and i have decided to use napp-it (zfs) for backups. We have ~500GB...

    Proxmox hypervisor crash during backup

I did another test this morning: did a backup from prompt with the bwlimit argument added: vzdump 110 --remove 0 --mode snapshot --compress lzo --storage storage02-backupstorage01 --node proxmox1 --bwlimit 30000 The proxmox1 hypervisor unfortunately did crash again (backup of the vm was at 41%).

    glusterfs howto

Hi, i am also interested in either zfsonlinux + gluster or zfsonlinux + ceph. Have seen a screencast about both in which was stated that gluster was further with optimisations than ceph. Regards, Dirk Adamsky

    Proxmox hypervisor crash during backup

Thank you for the tip. Unfortunately the 3 proxmox nodes all have only 1 SSD bootdisk (60GB,60GB and 40GB). The backup problem is with large vm's (~100GB). I will try to connect an extra hdd to one node but that will be next week when i am in the datacenter.

    Proxmox hypervisor crash during backup

i have upgraded one of the three proxmox nodes to the latest kernel: 2.6.32-23-pve Then started a backup at 17:00 hr. Between 17:04 hr. and 17:08 hr. the node restarted. Here is the deamon log: Oct 23 17:00:01 proxmox3 vzdump[9943]: <root@pam> starting task...

    Proxmox hypervisor crash during backup

Hi Tom, here is the messages log and a screenshot of the nappit nfs settings. All further nappit settings are default, no dedup, encryption, etc. There is a dedicated zil ssd on the vm storage. Please let me know if you need more logs and/or screenshots.

    Proxmox hypervisor crash during backup

Hi Tom, I will post them asap. The behaviour is indeed strange. I have 5 or 6 HP microserver boxes with proxmox 2.3 and proxmox 3, they have 1 100GB windows 7 vm and make backups to netgear nasboxes (nfs async) without problems....

    Proxmox hypervisor crash during backup

Hello all, i have a serious problem with proxmox 3.x. When i do a backup of a larger vm (> 50GB) the proxmox hypervisor crashes 50% of the times. I have tested this on proxmox 3.0 and 3.1. The vm is on a napp-it nfs store with gigabit interconnect. As a target i have tested both an nfs store...

    3.1 update broke backups

Hello, i have a similar problem. When i backup large vm's (~100GB) the backup stalls and the proxmox node crashes. I am on proxmox 3.1.3. The vm is on an NFS share and the backup target also is an NFS share. Small vm's (~10GB) are backed up without problems. Will revert to proxmox 3 and test...
