When I switch over to a console wndow, it tells me "make" is not installed etc. Any idea how to install it before the installer starts?

Hello, I am trying to install proxmox 3.0 on a highpoint 2710 RAID card (I have an array of 2x SSD drives in RAID1). When I start the installer, it will not detect the storage and therefore, I can not proceed any further with the installation. Any suggestions or ideas? Thank you very much.
