[SOLVED] Installing Proxmox on ZFS Raid 10

See this: https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/grub-rescue.33696/ I had lots of trouble booting ZFS lately and rootdelay=20 (even 5) was long enough to fix most of my troubles. Hope this helps.

    grub rescue

For ZFS rpool problems: Type: /sbin/zpool import -N rpool(enter) exit(enter) I had to add rootdelay=20 in my /etc/default/zfs to the line that starts with 'linux'..., then run update-grub on a recent hardware change to a Dell T630 PERC H330. See this thread...

PVE 4.4 ZFS rpool 8 drive limit not fixed

Thanks for the fixed ISO. I am using the new build to install. I checked the partitions and it appears the installer does now create a pool with all 10 drives. At least that part is fixed. I am having boot problems. I have not been able to get server to boot into Proxmox with 10 drives in the...

PVE 4.4 ZFS rpool 8 drive limit not fixed

Still no luck. Wiped all 10 SSDs (Intel S3710 400GB). Tried RAIDZ2, RAID0. sdi and sdj will not go into the rpool during install. They do show up on the list and are already pre-selected during install. root@pve1:~# zfs list NAME USED AVAIL REFER MOUNTPOINT rpool...

PVE 4.4 ZFS rpool 8 drive limit not fixed

I just erased all my drives and tried to select 10 disks with new (woohoo!) installer that supports more drives. Unfortunately, I can't seem to create a pool with more than 8 drives no matter what I try. When I select RAIDZ1 all 10 drives are listed, but after boot there are only 8 in the pool...

Suggestion: Add lrzip to Backup compression options

I now concur that lrzip produces the smallest files. It did take twice as long with my 133GB Windows Server with data test file. 2hr30min for lrzip vs 1hr17min pxz. lrzip was 9% smaller. Now I want lrzip in Proxmox too! :) Some other notes: The newest version of xz with built-in mutli-threading...

Convert existing KVM to Proxmox Containers

Sorry, I was reading the forums quickly trying to catch up from the new 4.3 release and totally missed he was looking to convert from KVM to Container.

High avalibility with no extra hardware.

Your question was unclear. Create a cluster. Add each node to the cluster. You can add more nodes the cluster at any time. Use ceph or some other common storage for high-availability of your VMs.

Suggestion: Add lrzip to Backup compression options

+1 vote for xz. xz is important to anyone who needs to move images over a WAN connection. A long overnight backup window gives me plenty of time to let xz chew on the data for maximum compression.

Convert existing KVM to Proxmox Containers

At least try it. I have moved VMs from Parallels on OSX to Proxmox. Convert the HDD to raw or qcow2. Create a VM in proxomx, then drop your qcow2 file in over the blank one Proxmox creates and see if it works.

    Proxmox 4.3 with S.M.A.R.T.?

You most likely have a Dell PERC/6i which does not pass SMART information. I have an R710 here in the lab and have replaced the RAID card in mine. If you don't mind reformatting your drives, get an M1015 or Dell H310 and cables, re-flash it to IT mode and switch over to ZFS. Proxmox offers...

    100% Wearout on Kingston SSD

Your drives are probably fine. All vendors don't follow the same rules when it comes to publishing SMART values.

    Proxmox 4.3 with S.M.A.R.T.?

Your RAID controller is hiding the SMART information. Your best bet to see SMART information is to use an HBA and ZFS. SMART data is working great for me running an M1015 controller in IT mode and ZFS file systems on Proxmox 4.3.

Thanks for the idea. I will give it a try.

ZFS 10 drives in rpool installer possible

Is there any way to install to a 10 drive ZFS RAIDZ2 from the installer? Right now the limit appears to be 8 drives. I don't want separate pools nor do I want to lose half the drive space on vdev mirrors by adding the remaining drives after installation.

My Isos have disappeared from the "Content" tab.

Is it possible you did not have ISO set in the Datacenter / Storage (tab) / local / edit (button) / Content selection dropdown?
