    [SOLVED] Slow/laggy Windows+Linux VM performance

Well I found out the problem. It's 3D acceleration! This seems, for some reason, to not exist in Proxmox. I posted here to be notified if someone ever comes up with more info https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/kvm-3d-acceleration.25722/ I explained the test I performed to validate, in the end I...

    KVM 3d Acceleration

Ha! After over 20 hours playing with virtually all settings in Proxmox including PCI passthrough I found why my guests where laggy!!! 3D acceleration disabled in Proxmox. To test this I simply unchecked 3D accel setting in VirtualBox when installed in Linux host on that same physical machine I...

    [SOLVED] Slow/laggy Windows+Linux VM performance

Ok I made it with PCI passthrough the iGPU to a Windows machine. I know that cuz the monitor connected to the host was on and as soon as I started the VM the monitor disconnected. It is as laggy as in any other way. The lag behaves differently but in the end it lags about the same amount. I...

    [SOLVED] Slow/laggy Windows+Linux VM performance

Ok nice, I have seen 2 tutorials on that. https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Pci_passthrough https://www.thomas-krenn.com/en/wiki/Enable_Proxmox_PCIe_Passthrough Will try that out. I do have an IOMMU setting in the BIOS. I tried it today and it broke SPICE. I reverted back the BIOS change and SPICE...

    [SOLVED] Slow/laggy Windows+Linux VM performance

Ok I have results of tests. I normally use SPICE and it's virutally exactly as slow as VNC and RDP, to the eyes I now run cpu = host vga = 512megs cache = writeback The above don't change performance at all I went in Proxmox Shell and timed the following: tar -czvf tar.gz 2_6Gigs.iso...

    [SOLVED] Slow/laggy Windows+Linux VM performance

Yes I have tried cpu host (seems a very little slower) as well as few cashing methods, none, writeback, writeback unsafe, direct and another one. I went up to 128megs on video but I can easily give it 512 why not, I'll try that. I've read 16 should be enough but in this case extremes might...

    [SOLVED] Slow/laggy Windows+Linux VM performance

Hi, I am having quite slow performance on both Windows and Linux VMs. It's even worse on Linux, which is weird. The performance is comparable than what it was on my Proxmox test machine (10yo 2-core Laptop!). Dragging windows is slow, hovering over a dock with icons is slow, opening file...

[SOLVED] Does TPM disk affect snapshot support? Cannot take snapshot

Jesus!! I made it! It was the stupidest, easiest thing on earth! Once you import your backup from your old Proxmox into the new Proxmox installation (remember, I changed physical machine), you just have to remove the EFI disk and add a new one, then boot! How come after almost 2 full days...

[SOLVED] Proxmox 7.1 + OVMF + Windows 10 ISO cannot boot

Wow you are awesome! I will try that, but I have AMD so I might need to select a different cpu. See how sensitive it is, the fine details do matter. :)

[SOLVED] Proxmox 7.1 + OVMF + Windows 10 ISO cannot boot

I get the same behavior... we are not alone then, hopefully some explanation will be posted at some point.

[SOLVED] Proxmox 7.1 + OVMF + Windows 10 ISO cannot boot

Similar problem here, OVMF has a lot of posts on the forums stating it not working or being very difficult to find the right configuration. I am mainly subscribing to this thread to see if anyone comes up with a solution, but have you tried following some posts about booting from EFI File from...

[SOLVED] Does TPM disk affect snapshot support? Cannot take snapshot

I failed. I can't get the migrated VM from Directory to lvm-thin to boot up. SeaBIOS and OVMF don't want to boot. OVMF is a beast, 10s of posts on the forum about it not booting up, seems tricky, I tried anyway. Even booting from file like boot64.efi or whatever did not work. I can't get...

Opt-in Linux Kernel 5.15 for Proxmox VE 7.x available

Oh boy, then I really missed something on setting up repos. I only got the ones default from 7.1.2, which update to 7.1.7. The kernel is not available in that repo. Didn't know there exist other repos than pvetest and Entreprise, I will read better! Sorry for wasting your time, shame on me. :(

[SOLVED] Does TPM disk affect snapshot support? Cannot take snapshot

Well while trying to extract zst and vma I ran into the famous issue of not having enough disk space on the pve/root. A lot of posts about that but nothing 100% clear for my use case, so I might as well write down the steps in case anyone has a similar use case and falls here in the future. USE...

[SOLVED] Does TPM disk affect snapshot support? Cannot take snapshot

It appears it does, TPM seems to be the problem when using Directory Storage... I have switched back to lvm-thin by reinstalling Proxmox on a better machine and HD, I restored my Windows VM backup (zstd), log shows all fine, but it won't start at all. I'm guessing switching Storage type is not...

Opt-in Linux Kernel 5.15 for Proxmox VE 7.x available

How do you install this pve-kernel-5.15? I need it in order to have my new AMD reboot, otherwise it hangs. But that kernel is not available in the repo, only pve-kernel-5.13. Uh? EDIT: Ha, never mind, unlike what is clearly written in the OP...

    Remote desktop shows two cursors

Ok it's not through Firefox but through Remote Desktop app that you see 2 cursors. I wouldn't know what to do but I know Proxmox had to do a change in the past about that https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/cursor-issues-with-novnc-2-cursors-in-firefox.40944/ Maybe there's something wrong going...

[SOLVED] Does TPM disk affect snapshot support? Cannot take snapshot

Hello there! I recently found about Proxmox and completely migrated my VirtualBox VMs into it. Really cool to work with Proxmox! :) I often perform snapshots to have the ability to revert back very quickly, because I use some of my VMs for testing purposes and like everyone sometimes I either...
