Start and stop KVM VM from command line

I've tried to run: qm shutdown <vmid> ... but it doesn't seem to shutdown my VMs. If I run: qm stop <vmid> ... it works just fine, though. But I'd rather not need to kill my machines that way. Any ideas/suggestions?

Compare Proxmox VE, VMware, Xen, Hyper-V

One thing you could try is to do a "poll" on Twitter and reach out to people that way. I'm sure there must be people out there who would volunteer such their use of Proxmox or KVM. I do know of some sizable installations in well-known organizations, but I'm not at liberty to talk about it. The...

Compare Proxmox VE, VMware, Xen, Hyper-V

I'm assuming this is for some kind of group of execs? If so, make a simple matrix outlining costs and pros and cons for each. As for who is using it, it gets a bit harder. However, the Proxmox guys may be able to give you some names.

I want to install a gateway in KVM...

I'm interested in getting this set up in a similar way too. I have a brand new server that I got just for experimenting with 2.0. I have a couple of small 1.9 clusters running already, so I have some familiarity with Proxmox. My new box has 3 NICs available. My intention with the new box was to...

VLAN configuration from GUI in 2.0?

Hi, Will there be an option in 2.0 to configure VLANs from the GUI? It would be pretty slick if that was possible. Thanks.

pfSense and FreeNAS keep failing in 2.0 beta

What hard disk type are you using? I originally had problems on 1.x too, but solved it by using SCSI and qcow2. Have you tried that?

    Can't remove KVM

Thx for the tip e100. I'll clear the Chrome cache and try again. I did run "aptitude update && aptitude dist-upgrade" and had no errors. Rebooted the host before doing anything.

    Can't remove KVM

Alright, I'll partly answer this myself. It's a bug in the UI using Chrome that doesn't let me delete the VM. Using Firefox 8 it works fine. However, I still can't start the VM. In Firefox, the "Status" in "Recent tasks" shows: "ERROR: No accelerator found!"

    Can't remove KVM

I created a VM through the 2.0 UI. Now, I'd like to remove/destroy it. In the summary tab in the UI the "Remove" button is greyed out so I can't delete my VM. I tried to SSH to the box and run: vzctl destroy 200 ... but when I do that, all I get is a "Container config file does not exist"...

Some sort of virtual router, like pfSense or Smoothwall

AFAIK, there are VIRTIO drivers for FreeBSD now that can be used with pfSense. Vyatta is maybe a great match because it's also Debian based. However, if you like a nice GUI for the firewall, I would definitely recommend pfSense. In terms of functionality, there aren't many firewalls out there...

Aside: pve.proxmox.com RSS feed not working

Proxmox team, In the past I've relied on the RSS feed on the wiki to get timely information about new releases and general news. For some reason the RSS feed doesn't seem to work in most RSS readers anymore. I've tried it in Google Reader and on several RSS aggregators on both an iPhone and on...

Lost Internet connection in two VMs

Just in case anyone else ever runs into the same/similar problem I thought I would post the final outcome of the strange behavior I encountered with a few of my VMs not being able to connect to the Internet. As pointed out earlier, despite my first analysis that it must have been Proxmox...

Looking for best practice: VMWare ESXi VM conversion to Proxmox

mylesw, Here's the blog article I mentioned: http://www.howdididothat.info/2011/05/11/migrate-vmware-image-to-proxmox-ve/ Like I said, it has worked very nicely for me.

IP Address for fully virtualized (KVM)

It's a virtual IP. You can't really assign the physical NIC to your VM. Well, you may be able to, but that's not the idea. Just assign any IP in your local subnet inside your VM.
