Virtual server loading slowly, not sure if Proxmox hardware needs updating?

Proxmox is running: Webserver, discstorage (proxmox), local (proxmox) and local-zfs (proxmox). CPU usage: 0.23% of 4 (CPU)s IO delay Load average: 0.00,0.08,0.11 RAM usage: 32.60% (5.09 GiB of 15.62 GiB) KSM sharing HD space(root): 1.79% (1.66 GiB of 93.03 GiB) SWAP usage CPU: 4 x Intel(R) CPU...

Virtual server loading slowly, not sure if Proxmox hardware needs updating?

By the way, I don't used RAID due to server grade hardware. I'm not sure if Proxmox uses soft or hard caching. Could this be an issue with the slow website?

Virtual server loading slowly, not sure if Proxmox hardware needs updating?

Thanks for the handy tool. Still not sure why the WordPress website is running slow. I suspect the Proxmox webserver is at fault (to handle a slow or heavy WordPress site). I doubled the RAM. I installed W3 Total Cache on WordPress to speed up the site. I deactivated all plugins. Still running...

Virtual server loading slowly, not sure if Proxmox hardware needs updating?

Thanks, I think the issue is the webserver for the slow loading page. I increased the webserver's RAM from 2 GiB to 4 GiB. If more is needed, I'll upgrade, as I would like this running so I can move on to email servers for the website. root@proxmox:~# pveperf CPU BOGOMIPS: 24743.68...

Virtual server loading slowly, not sure if Proxmox hardware needs updating?

Hello, I'm not sure if my Proxmox hardware/software configuration is slowing down my virtual server, or if the virtual server is at fault. Any suggestions how to make Proxmox or the virtual server run quickly? (webpages are taking forever to load). I'm worried that if I buy and/or allocate more...

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

Ok, I had to learn how to add a node. Backups now storing on disc 5, rather than the local Proxmox OS disc.

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

Ok, I think it's complete now as per my previously mentioned post. Host proxmox OS on ZFS RAID1 on 4 SSD discs. Guests are all non windows. 1 SSD disc for storage. 1 external 1 TB hard disc. Freenas will rsync to pull the storage from Proxmox storage. Hmm, Proxmox auto backup failed with...

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

    Ok, fixed with steps: Proxmox > Server View > Datacenter > proxmox > local > Content > Upload > Content: iso image > Select File… > vm.iso > Upload.

    Storage "local" and "local-zfs"

Without zfs, the VM.iso image is in /var/lib/vz/template/iso. With zfs, I can't find VM.iso myself?

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

    Looks like same problem here

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

Ok, that worked. Only had RAID1. I would prefer RAID6 with the 4 disks, but maybe I'm missing something. My understanding is that Proxmox OS is now running on RAID1 zd0 which is on four discs sda, sdb, sdc and sdd. So, I transferred the VM.iso to /var/lib/bz/template/iso, however...

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

Thanks. That really worked. (ignore that disks 2, 3 and 4 are now nice zfs tanks currently) Now I think I need to finish off the redundancy on the Disk1 Proxmox OS sda, which should have a RAID with disk2 and disk3, in case disk1 sda breaks. I'm thinking to setup mdadm as RAID for Proxmox, but...

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

Reading Proxmox's Software_RAID wiki links, it seems software RAID is supported out of the box with ZFS. Looks like I need to setup ZFS, as install mdadm doesn't work. So, does this mean I should install install debian Squeeze/Wheezy/Jessie on sda, the intall mdadm on sda. then RAID sda, sdb...

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

Ok, for now I'll make RAID on disk1,2,3 sda, sdb, sdc. Disk4 can be a backup storage disk. So, installing mdadm says Proxmox can't install mdadm https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Software_RAID Next research is how to install RAID on Proxmox.

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

Thanks. So: Machine1, Disk1 sda, 120 GB has Proxmox OS. Machine1, Disk2 sdb 120 GB for backup storage. Machine1, Disk3, sdc 120 GB for backup storage. Machine1, Disk4, sdd 120 GB for backup storage. Machine2, Disk1, sda 1 TB for backup of Machine1, Disk2, Disk3 and Disk4. This freeNAS auto...

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

Ok, added disk2 as storage. Need Proxmox to read it as storage rather than disk1 which runs the OS. Proxmox > Server View > Datacenter > proxmox > Disks > shows /dev/sda LVM, /dev/sdb partitions, /dev/sdc partitions and /dev/sdd partitions. I added /dev/sdb as storage Directory, however storage...

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

Thanks, useful information. I'm leaning towards zfs rather than nfs. From the link https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Storage:_NFS, it says nfs can't to snapshots. Yes, will looks at the scheduler too, once the storage is added. 5 VMs total about 30GB at the moment.

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

    Ok, here's what the Proxmox machine has: root@proxmox:/var/lib/vz# lsblk NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT sda 8:0 0 223.6G 0 disk ├─sda1 8:1 0 1007K 0 part ├─sda2 8:2 0 127M...

    Auto backup with NAS4Free storage

Ok, I gave up on Proxmox. I'm using freeNAS which rsyncs the Proxmox backup onto the freeNAS machine. Works well.
