    Guest killed if backup stopped

I was running a backup (snapshot). I chose to stop the backup because I wanted to exclude a disk. After stopping it, the guest wasn't running anymore: INFO: starting new backup job: vzdump 100 --mode snapshot --compress lzo --storage usb-esterno --remove 0 --node pve INFO: Starting Backup of VM...

    Host swapping when it shouldn't

Hi I thought I fixed my issue by limiting max_c to 4G following the instruction of the above links...but the swapping problem showed up again. Here's what a did yesterday: - turned off my two guests. - apt update; apt upgrade (Proxmox got updated from 5.0-23/af4267bf to 5.0-30). - Didn't...

[SOLVED] Concern about backup on removable storage

Hi all, I was considering this scenario: - add an usb drive - mount in /media/backup-usb - add it also to fstab - create a new storage in proxmox of type dir for /media/backup-usb - schedule backup on this storage If the external usb gets removed for any reason, the schedule backup will write...

    [SOLVED] Disable ZFS compression

Ok, I will not disable compression. I'm experiences problems with a server using zfs but it seems related to zfs arc cache only. Now I'm going to reduce zfs arc cache and move swap away from zfs. If this will fix my problems, no need to disable compression. Thank you all for your answers.

    Resize rpool/ROOT/pve-1 live

Thank you for your reply. Well, what I fear is something start writing in the / filling up all the availabel space. This is unprobabile but no impossible. Virtual space of rpool/ROOT + virtual space of rpool/data > phisical space. In such case, the gest will start getting I/O. In the worse...

    Resize rpool/ROOT/pve-1 live

Hi all, I have a Proxmox 5 server with 2 ssd in zfs raid 1. During setup I let Proxmox installer to choose the size of swap and root (/). The root virtual size is huge: 85G and I wish to shrink it. Is it possible to resize rpool/ROOT/pve-1 live? How? df -h / Filesystem Size Used Avail...

    [SOLVED] Disable ZFS compression

    Hi all, I created two zfs pools with compression active. These pools are used by guests. Swap and root filesystem are also hosted here. tree /dev/zvol/ /dev/zvol/ ├── rpool │ ├── data │ │ ├── vm-100-disk-1 -> ../../../zd0 │ │ └── vm-100-disk-1-part1 -> ../../../zd0p1 │ └── swap ->...

    Started Proxmox VE replication runner

@Glock24, thank you for your reply. It might be the answer to this topic and also to this other topic I posted yesterday. I have other proxmox 4 and 5 installations but didn't experience these two issues (that may be the same). This is the first installation I do with zfs. Usually I install...

    Host swapping when it shouldn't

Hi all, I have a server with proxmox 5. It hosts 2 vm: - windows 2011, domain controller (id100); - windows 2008, terminal server (id101). I was going to check some setting in computer management / roles. I guess it was a heavy task for windows (probably querying sql server)...well, the host...

    Started Proxmox VE replication runner

Not at all. It seems like an hard reset due to power loss or something similar. Today we change the ups to be sure there is no power issue. I got worried about the messages above but I think it's improbable to be a software related problem. I'll pock you back when I have news. Thank you.

Not that I know of. This is a single server installation made from iso. What may I check to be sure no wrong services may be running. Thank you.

    Understanding backup on zfs

Hi all, I have a guest (id 101) with a single vdi hosted on a zfs storage named 'meccanico'. I created a backup job with 'Stop' option and gzip compression. I noticed that the guest has been shutdown and restarted right after. Backup is actually running but I was expecting the guest to stay...

    ZFS vs BTRFS

This is just curiosity: why was chosen to use zfs instead of btrfs. I'm getting familiar with both and, to me, it seems they do the same things. So I wonder what are the specif reasons you chose zfs. Was btrfs still consider unstable at the time of choice? Was btrfs redundancy not ready? Other...
